Global Reach: Local Roots

Standing on the single highest point in Devon brings it home just what an amazing county lies before us.

At 2,039ft above sea level, High Willhays is a lofty and lonely place. It edges above the tip of Exmoor, Dunkery Hill in Somerset which climbs to 1,705ft, and indeed any other place you choose to consider in the whole of southern England. It is a fine, if often bracing spot, to consider big issues, lofty ambitions and the grand scale of life.

According to Everys Solicitors’ managing partner James Griffin, no stranger to these hills, it is this horizon-scanning ability that has helped deliver a successful 12 months on behalf of the firm’s growing commercial client base.

“It’s been a busy time for us and a successful period for our commercial clients across the South West,” says James. “We’re working with some brilliant West Country companies, strong brands that are key players in the regional economy, like Clinton Devon Estates and Otter Brewery. We are passionate about where we live and do business, which is why we love working with these kinds of companies. They share that passion.”

James believes attention to detail and forward thinking ahead of the launch of the firm’s commercial team last year is now paying dividends.

“We knew we had to get the commercial team right from the word go. It’s an incredibly competitive market and your expertise must be second to none if you’re going to help clients secure the very best outcomes for their business, whether it’s a new venture, a buy out, sale of assets or complex negotiations.

“What’s fantastic is that we’ve successfully ramped up our capacity for working with Devon and Somerset businesses at the same time as moving to a more global outlook with our London and overseas offices. That mix is also definitely attractive to many of our larger clients.”

The growing commercial reputation of Everys Solicitors follows a string of multi-million pound deals brought to a successful conclusion for clients across sectors including property, international manufacturing and business acquisitions.

Highlights have seen the Devon and Somerset firm acting for the Srivikorn Group during the purchase of the Madjeski Hotel in Reading. The Group owns a large share of Reading Football Club right next door. And bosses at Thailand Carpet Manufacturing celebrated after Everys worked diligently to secure the deal which saw the international firm become joint owners of leading quality UK upholstery manufacturer Alstons, in a joint venture with the existing management team.

With its own investment management team here in the UK, and legal consultancy in Dubai, Everys Solicitors operates across offices in Exeter, Taunton, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Ottery St Mary, Seaton, Honiton, London, United Arab Emirates and Iran.

Already, 2016 is proving to be another busy year.

Kate Stamp, head of commercial law, said: “We’ve already got some significant activity underway in 2016, which is very positive. We’re working with more businesses in the South West, London and overseas, including clients looking to expand in the United Arab Emirates, Iran and the wider Middle East.

“We are unlocking the Middle East market to UK businesses, including for companies in the South West. They appreciate our strong track record there, especially if it is new territory for them.”

Despite a global outlook, with its 150 staff in the South West, Everys Solicitors continue to take pride in the company’s local roots and diligence, always able to visit local firms to understand their needs and to help develop solutions for each individual business to help them prosper.

James added: “We are building on strong foundations provided by our Devon and Somerset base. That has and always will remain fundamental to how we do business and how we move forward.”
